Overcoming the diabetes and food struggle
Many people living with diabetes struggle with their eating and their weight. Their eating can become disordered. There is a high prevalence of eating disorders amoung people living with diabetes.
An eating disorder will negatively affect your diabetes control and can have a very damaging effect on your health.
If you live with diabetes and are struggling with an eating disorder it is essential to seek medical care. With the right support, it is possible to enjoy your food, manage your diabetes and recover from an eating disorder.
Your comprehensive healthcare team
Diabetes is a serious illness that requires management by a comprehensive team of healthcare professionals - your GP, a specialist and/or endocrynologist, a dietician, a diabetes educator, a dentist and a podiatrist.
If you are struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating, your doctor may refer you a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Remember, you are not disordered. You are someone who is really struggling. There is a big difference.
If you are committed to recovery, and you accept the support that is available to you, you can move out of and away from your eating difficulties.
